What is the best leveling build for a rogue in classic? ›

When leveling a Rogue, Combat Swords is the most recommended build. It is the bread-and-butter build for Rogues, great for beginners, has great progression while leveling, and is easy to transition into raiding.

Best Rogue Spec for PvE in WoW Classic

Combat Rogues are the best spec for Rogues in the early phases of Classic WoW. They will choose between Combat Swords (19/32) or Combat Daggers (15/31/5), depending on what are the best weapons available.

Best Leveling Spec for Rogue in Dragonflight

Out of all three Rogue specs, we recommend Subtlety as the best choice for leveling. It offers the best single-target burst damage and allows you to dispatch enemies within only a few seconds, jumping from enemy to enemy in quick succession.

Doesn't even matter what spec you play it feels horrible for most of the leveling process, their damage is very low and energy regen is extremely slow. Survivability is quite low too. There's a few levels where sub can one or two shot mobs but it's extremely reliant on stealth.

If you are just starting out leveling a rogue and are lower level, I suggest starting with 2 in Remorseless Attacks, then 5 in Opportunity, 5 into Lightning Reflexes, 3 into Improved Backstab, and then progress down the combat tree as seen here. Play Beast Mastery: There's only one spec for a Hunter to choose and that's Beast Mastery: BM talents will allow your pet to carry you while leveling. Especially if it is your first time playing hunter, you will have a much easier time leveling if you allow yourself to rely on your pet.

The fastest specialization for leveling is Combat, due to its excellent burst damage, solid AoE, and "upfront" damage, as opposed to long ramp-up times. Subtlety can still be a good choice if you prefer its playstyle, but it still will not be as fast as Combat.

Dexterity is key for any Rogue, and Intelligence is important for Arcane Tricksters, but your need for Wisdom and Charisma depend largely on your choice of skills and role in the party.
