FAQs

What age are sensory kits for? ›

We recommend our Kits for ages 3-14... and up! Even adults report they love to play with the dough and sand so we don't necessarily have a cap for the max age. Due to small parts in our Sensory Kits we do recommend ages 3 & up.

Are sensory bins Montessori? ›

While not technically Montessori, you can find sensory bins in many Montessori classrooms.

How to make a farm sensory bin? ›

Mix together cocoa powder, water, corn kernels, and oatmeal to create a taste-safe mud that the farm animal figurines can play in. Place the sensory bin on a flat surface and let the toddlers use their imagination to have the animals play and explore in the mud.

How do I make a sensory bin? ›

What You'll Do
  1. Lay out a sheet, tablecloth or towel. Not only does this protect the floor, but it makes cleanup much easier.
  2. Fill the bin or bowl with dry pasta, rice or beans.
  3. Add spoons, scoops, toys and whatever else you have on hand into the bin.
  4. Play!

Are sensory bins good for 2 year olds? ›

Children learn so much during unstructured free play – problem solving, emotional regulation, imitation, social skills, language, fine motor skills, the list is endless. So giving them new experiences in the form of a sensory bin will help them develop and hone so many new skills, all while having a blast!

Do kids need sensory bins? ›

Sensory bins provide children with the opportunity to explore and learn through hands-on tactile play that engages their senses. These bins encourage and support various types of development and are great activities to have in your home.

Why does Montessori discourage color? ›

Montessori at home doesn't restrict color; it reminds us not to restrict natural beauty. It is more often the case that color is used to overstimulate and distract the child.

What is not allowed in Montessori? ›

In the Montessori Classroom a child may move about freely but not run or push. He or she can talk softly and respectfully but never shout. When the child is finished with his or her work it must be returned to the shelf in proper order, and in its proper place.

Why are plastic toys not Montessori? ›

Why are there no plastic toys in Montessori? Montessori favours toys made from natural materials like wood, metal, cotton and glass for a few reasons. Unlike plastic, these materials inspire a connection to nature and the real world, while the different textures offer a sensory experience and encourage exploration.

How do you make a sensory Ziplock? ›

Here's how: Fill a resealable plastic bag with tactile materials like hair gel, pumpkin seeds, shaving cream, or marbles. Reinforce the seal with strong tape, then use painter's or washi tape to secure the edges of the bag to the floor or a table where your baby can play.

What age is best for sensory bins? ›
